As a first-year student, Mish Khan was at a crossroads choosing a language to complement her Bachelor of Asian Studies. Fascinated by Myanmar's political transition and eager to develop a competitive edge, she decided to minor in Burmese at The Australian National University, the only Australian university to teach the language.
Over the course of her studies, Mish's Burmese language skills paved the way for memorable experiences; she was an associate editor at New Mandala, She translated and recited an Australian folk tale on Burmese radio, and she was a New Colombo Plan fellow on exchange at the University of Yangon.
Now, she is embarking on a new adventure as a policy officer as part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's esteemed graduate program. As Myanmar continues opening up and deepens relations with Australia, there are increasing opportunities for graduates with Burmese language skills.
